The Sola Jr came after the Sola as a stripped back version. Taking away the curves and bevels, leaving just one pickup and a slab body, the Sola Jr is a no-nonsense guitar that has everything you need and nothing you don’t. The single volume and single tone also give you the control you need to wring as much tone as you can from the one pickup. Sola Jr is a great way to get a boutique guitar with custom features at a great price.
Poplar body
Used by Gibson, PRS and Squier, poplar is lightweight wood considered great for tone (if you’re into that sort of argument). Some say it sounds similar to alder, which has a balanced, resonant tone and smooth midrange, and is commonly used by Fender, Charvel, Suhr and many others.
Since the grain is often rather plain, poplar is usually finished in solid colours.
Sound
It’s only got one pickup. How useful could that possibly be?
The cliche is that tone comes from the fingers, but however you interpret that, the sound starts with you, the player. The sound in your head is the sound you want to create, so having limited options just makes you work a little more to get that tone. Rather than thinking about switches, single coil cuts, and pickup options, you have to make the tone with your pick attack, adjust how clean it is with the volume and perhaps take off some high end with the tone control. Then, once you have that sound, you keep tweaking it with your playing style. It’s a different way of playing to relying on pickup options and pedals, but it is a lot of fun. And more natural. The tone really does come from YOU!

The neck profile can be carved to any shape you like, whether you like a slim and fast neck or something fuller and vintage-feeling.
Stainless steel frets can also be chosen according to your taste. Whether you like the jumbo, medium or low frets with a worn in feel, stainless steel will last longer than standard cupronickel seen on many guitars.
